How to Connect Salesforce as a Data Source in Pyramid Analytics
Important Information
Salesforce has introduced changes to its authentication and application registration requirements. New integrations should use External Client Apps instead of legacy Connected Apps.
The instructions below reflect Salesforce's updated configuration process as of October 2026. Salesforce may change its interface, authentication requirements, and available settings in future releases.
Customers should verify the latest Salesforce requirements with their Salesforce administrator and confirm compatibility with their installed Pyramid Analytics version.
Step 1: Access Salesforce Setup
Log in to Salesforce using an account with administrative permissions.
Click the gear icon and select Setup.
In Quick Find, search for External Client App Manager.
Open External Client App Manager.
Step 2: Create an External Client App
Click New External Client App.
Enter the application details:
External Client App Name: Pyramid Analytics
API Name: Pyramid_Analytics
Contact Email: Your administrator's email address
Select Local as the distribution state.
Continue to the OAuth settings.
Step 3: Obtain the Callback URL from Pyramid Analytics
Before configuring OAuth in Salesforce, retrieve the redirect URL from Pyramid Analytics.
Log in to Pyramid Analytics as an administrator.
Open the Admin Console.
Navigate to Data → Data Sources → Global Settings.
Locate the OAuth Settings section.
Find the Redirect URL field.
If the field is not configured, click Use Default Value to populate the default Pyramid authentication callback URL.
Copy the displayed URL.
The default URL format is:
https://<PyramidServerName>/AuthenticateCallbackPage
For example:
https://pyramid.company.com/AuthenticateCallbackPage
Use the actual URL configured in your Pyramid environment, including its hostname and HTTPS configuration.
For further information, see Pyramid Analytics — Global Settings.
Step 4: Configure Salesforce OAuth Settings
Return to the Salesforce External Client App configuration.
Locate OAuth Settings.
Enable OAuth.
In the Callback URL field, enter the Redirect URL copied from Pyramid Analytics in Step 3.
Select the OAuth scopes required for the integration, including API access.
Enable the OAuth authorization flow supported by your installed Pyramid connector.
Save the configuration.
Step 5: Configure Application Access
Save the External Client App.
Open the application's settings in External Client App Manager.
Review the Permitted Users policy.
Configure the appropriate permission sets or profiles.
Ensure the Salesforce account used to authorize the integration has the necessary API and data-access permissions.
For environments requiring controlled access, use Admin approved users are pre-authorized and assign the appropriate access through permission sets or profiles.
Step 6: Obtain the Consumer Key and Consumer Secret
Open the application in Salesforce App Manager.
Select Manage Consumer Details.
Complete identity verification if requested.
Copy the following values:
Consumer Key (Client ID)
Consumer Secret (Client Secret)
These values identify the Salesforce application and are used in the corresponding Pyramid connection settings.
Store the Consumer Secret securely.
Step 7: Configure the Salesforce Data Source in Pyramid
Open the Pyramid Admin Console.
Navigate to Data → Data Sources.
Add a new data source and select Salesforce.
Enter the required connection details.
FieldValue
| Consumer Key | Salesforce Consumer Key (Client ID) |
| Consumer Secret | Salesforce Consumer Secret (Client Secret) |
| Custom Domain | Salesforce custom domain, if applicable |
Save the data-source configuration.
Complete the OAuth authorization process if prompted by Pyramid.
Ensure that the authorization process uses the same Salesforce application configured in the previous steps.
Step 8: Test the Connection
After configuring the Salesforce connection in Pyramid:
Save or test the connection using the available options.
Complete any required Salesforce OAuth authorization.
Verify that Pyramid can successfully connect to Salesforce.
Confirm that the required Salesforce objects and data are accessible.
If authentication fails, verify the configured OAuth flow, callback URL, application policies, user permissions, and Salesforce security requirements.
