One tradition that never fails in our home: a trip to the mountains! Snowboarding is almost guaranteed, whether we stay local or venture somewhere new. :)

While not a cultural tradition, one tradition we do every day is at dinner time - everyone shares what made us happy, what made us sad, and what we are thankful for that day.

In South Africa it’s summer, so it usually includes a braai, music playing, and that relaxed “nothing urgent needs to happen today” feeling. My family is normally always on the go, so the holidays are about finally slowing down and just being together.

A Christmas tradition in my family for many years now has been to make and decorate a gingerbread house. It has become one of my favorite traditions every year as it gives me a chance to exercise my creative side. It's also fun to watch some of the holiday baking competition shows on Food Network, etc. while making the house to get some festive inspiration from their designs.
