Using same parameter for same model but pointing at different tables

Hi All,

I have a model that creates some simple data sets. They are linked by location but each of them also have a parameter of "online sale" where a column states 1 or 0.  I'd like to use the same parameter for them but when putting them together on a presentation there doesn't appear to be a way to link them. Is it possible please?

    Hi Linda,

Thank you for your question. In cases like this we would recommend that you create a dimension table with the ID's (1 or Zero) and the corresponding Name (Online/Store).

Here is a highly simplified example:

You can then use the Data Model to join your dimension table and have one slicer power multiple data sets in one model.

You can see here that the fact tables do not have any checked boxes while the dimension table does. This means that in your discover dimension panel you should see just one "Online/Store" dimension. In your present, when you put multiple discovers from this model they can all be driven by this one source dimension. (For clarity, I chose the name Online Sale in the fact table for ease of understanding, this is your suggested one or zero value so I'm joining Int to Int in this join.)

If you have multiple models in your present that follow a similar construction we can use model mapping to create an equivalency between dimensions so again you can use one dimension slicer to power many discover visuals.

    Hopefully this helps,

    Matt
