How to Personalize User Preferences on Storyboard Slicers

A common request form customers is the ability to personalize a dashboard for each user. This is similar to dynamic security but different in that instead of limiting the slicer values to those a user is allowed to see, it pre-picks the value they care about most but lets them still see the other values if they want. In an ideal world this capability would be built into your existing data model. But if you do not have access to an OLAP administrator or Data Model Owners, this video will show you step by step process to setup this personalization for ANY data model.

  • That looks like very useful functionality.  It never occurred to me to house "helper functionality" such as user preferences within a completely different SSAS DB, but it makes a lot of sense given the ability to move MDX across DBs.
