Configure Load Balance

Hello,

I am looking for information about how to configure load balance. I have found that I need at least two application servers with unique machine names and machine address.

Is there any documentation to refer to for installing the second application server and configure load balancing?

Thanks.

  • Hi Katia,

Please see our attached installation guide which has a section on how to install a multi-server environment (see from pg. 7)

There are two options for load balancing between application servers. This is explained here in our online help:

  • Hello Daniel,

I referred to the guide1.pdf you attached, and I still need some clarifications about the load balancing feature.

In our network, we have the Router, Application, Publication, and Web services on one server. In the installation guide, P-15  is a deployment example in which the services are spread out on several servers.

    1.  Is it necessary to have the web services on separate servers in order to use the load balancing feature, or can we use it in the deployment we have already?

    2. The load balance feature is to load balance jobs between systems only, or will it load balance client connections also?

    3.  Can we use an external load balancer without using the Pyramid job load balancing feature, and if so, what considerations are there?

    Thanks.

  • Hi Katia,

Please see my answers in bold below:

    1.  Is it necessary to have the web services on separate servers in order to use the load balancing feature, or can we use it in the deployment we have already? No, this is not necessary. However if you want to load balance the website, you must install two web services on two different servers and then you a 3rd party load-balance between them.

    2. The load balance feature is to load balance jobs between systems only, or will it load balance client connections also? It will only load balance between the application servers. For client load-balancing please see the answer to question one.

    3.  Can we use an external load balancer without using the Pyramid job load balancing feature, and if so, what considerations are there? You can only use a external load balancer for load-balancing between more than one BI Office web services.(this is the only way to do this)
