Hidden Tables Delete Relationships. Is this a bug or a feature?

Hello PA Team,
I’ve found that hiding tables in the data model causes their relationships to disappear. This may break existing content (reports, dashboards) that depend on those connections.

Details:

Example: using the "Training Models" database from "In-Memory".
Added tables.

Set up relationships.

Created a discovery.

And added a formula, e.g., a data marker linked to the "Channels" table

In the query preview, the formula works correctly.

Go back to the model and hide the "Channels" table (e.g., in the "Columns" section).

Or hide it in the "Tables" section.

The table disappears from view.

It reappears if you enable "Hidden Tables".

However, the previously established relationships between "Channels" and other tables are gone — they’ve been deleted.

Returning to the discovery, the table appears hidden in the dimensions section. The formula calculation is now incorrect.

No errors show in the formula itself, but the result is wrong.

Is this a bug, or is it by design?

I don't fully understand the purpose of the table-hiding feature if it also deletes relationships. My use case is to hide certain tables from end users, but if existing relationships are removed, it breaks calculations in previously created content.

Recurring Disk Latency Spikes While Pyramid In-Memory Service Is Running

Hello Pyramid team,

I am investigating recurring disk read/write latency spikes on multiple Pyramid in-memory servers.

The storage was moved to a higher-performance network SSD type, but the latency spikes remained.

Monitoring shows recurring write latency spikes, with p99 frequently reaching approximately 150-200 ms, while the number of IOPS and the actual write throughput remain relatively low.

What I observed:

The latency spikes occur while the Pyramid in-memory service is running.

When the service is stopped, the spikes almost completely disappear.

RAM usage remains within the normal range, approximately 40-60%, with no signs of memory exhaustion.

Separate fio tests were performed on the same volume while the Pyramid services were stopped.

The fio tests did not reproduce the high latency shown in monitoring.

fio results:

Random read:

Average latency: approximately 0.62 ms

p99 latency: approximately 2.15 ms

Random write:

Average latency: approximately 0.59 ms

p99 latency: approximately 2.06 ms

Maximum latency: approximately 12.8 ms

No fio errors were reported.

Based on these results, the storage does not show the same high latency under a simple synthetic read/write workload. However, I cannot determine whether the issue is caused by a specific Pyramid I/O pattern or by the way the storage handles this workload.

Could you please advise:

Which Pyramid components or background processes can generate this disk I/O pattern?

Are there any known issues related to high write latency on Pyramid in-memory servers?

Which Pyramid logs or diagnostics should I collect during a latency spike?

Is there a recommended way to correlate Pyramid operations with disk latency?

Are there any recommended settings for the in-memory service or storage configuration that should be checked?

I have attached the monitoring screenshots and the complete fio read/write logs.

Thanks!

Incorrect SQL generation in Calendar Slicer (Formula Picker) when using Last with Date granularity

Hello PA Team,
I’m seeing incorrect SQL generation in the Calendar Slicer when applying function "Last" with Date granularity. The filter produces single-day matches per period instead of a full range, which severely distorts aggregated results.

Details

You can reproduce this issue using the "Training Models - Sales" dataset. Simply build a table grouped by month with sales amounts.

Save this table. Create a dashboard and add the table to it. Also add a slicer "Date", and in its settings set:

· Initial Selection Mechanism → Functional

· Function Type → Last

· Value → 3 Months

You will see data for the last 3 months, but the figures will be incorrect.

This can be easily verified by adding the "Date" dimension to the table rows.

In the dashboard, you will see that the slicer leaves only one date per month in the table.

I expected to see data for the last 3 months relative to the date specified in the filter.

I am aware that changing the granularity from Date to Month in the calendar settings makes the calculation work correctly. However, this is not very convenient, as it would require manually adjusting the granularity setting each time.

Could you please clarify whether this behavior of the Calendar Slicer is considered correct by design, or is it a bug? Also, are there any workarounds that would allow me to configure the slicer to behave as expected — i.e., selecting a full date range rather than individual dates?

I’d like to report a bug regarding the LLM provider switching process.

We have identified an issue where switching the default AI Engine from an external provider to "Pyramid Internal" causes immediate errors for the current user session. The issue resolves only after the user logs out and logs back in.

Steps to Reproduce:

Login to an environment where an External LLM is set as the default (and verified as working).

Open any Discovery and use the Chatbot to generate a task (it works correctly, creating a report based on the text prompt).

Logs: Record "Error occurred while running the LLM query".

Persistence: The error persists even after a metadata refresh. It is only resolved by a full logout/login.

Expected Behavior:
The system should process the Chatbot request using the new engine. Changes to the AI provider should apply immediately to the active session without requiring re-authentication.

Recurring pyramidPrinter startup failure on Ubuntu 20 after application updates

Hi!
We are experiencing a recurring issue that is consistently reproducible in versions 2024.X and 2025.X in our environment running Ubuntu 20.

Steps to reproduce:

We update the application version on the environment.

After startup, the application fails to launch the internal pyramidPrinter process

The following error appears every second in the logs: "Can't create process at schedule." (full error text and screenshot are provided below).

As a result, the export and print functionalities become completely unavailable.

Temporary workaround:
To resolve this issue, we perform the following manual steps in the terminal:

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get install -y libpangocairo-1.0-0 libx11-xcb1 libxcomposite1 libxcursor1 libxdamage1 libxi6 libxtst6 libnss3 libcups2 libxss1 libxrandr2 libgconf-2-4 libasound2 libatk1.0-0 libgtk-3-0 libgbm1 libxshmfence-dev

Navigate to /opt/Pyramid/core/prt/puppet and execute: sudo chmod 777 pyramidPrinter

Navigate to /opt/Pyramid/core/prt/puppet/chromium and execute: sudo chmod 777 chrome

Return to /opt/Pyramid/core/prt/puppet/ and execute: ./pyramidPrinter --tabs=1 --port=3002
Once the PUPPET-INITIALIZED message appears, press Ctrl-C.

Restart the Task Engine service either via the web interface or by command: sudo systemctl restart pyramidTE

This approach is highly inconvenient and poses a critical blocker for us: all manual changes must be reapplied after every single application update, and during these actions, the affected functionality becomes unavailable.

Are there any other ways to resolve this issue permanently?

Full error text and screenshot:

Why are Date fields exported as text in Excel but recognized as dates in CSV?

Hello Pyramid team,

I have a question about Date/DateTime export behavior in Pyramid.

After additional testing, I found the following behavior:

If a Date/DateTime field has a model-level format suitable for Excel, for example yyyy-mm-dd or MM/DD/YYYY:

1. When exporting to CSV, Excel can recognize the exported values as dates.
2. When exporting to Excel (.xlsx), the same values are not recognized as dates and are treated as text.

This looks inconsistent, because XLSX supports native date/datetime cell types, while CSV is only a text-based format.

Is this expected behavior for Excel export in Pyramid?

Expected behavior:
When exporting to Excel, Date/DateTime fields should be exported as native Excel date/datetime values, not as plain text.

This would allow me to:

1. Sort values as dates.
2. Use Excel date filters.
3. Use date formulas without manual conversion.
4. Build pivot tables using these fields as real dates.

Could you please confirm whether this is expected behavior, a known limitation, or something that can be treated as an export issue?

Thanks!

Hello,

I am currently trying to create some layered maps in Discover that overlay store location bubbles on top of an area map. Unfortunately, it seems like layered maps do not support using latitude and longitude measures to plot data points on the map like bubble map charts do. This then means reliance on Geocoding or predefined address, city, etc. attributes which are less reliable. I'm guessing this is because the layered map is missing the 'Details' drop zone that the other map visualisations have.

Is there any way to get latitude and longitude measures to work with layered maps or does this feature not exist?

Many thanks

Hi Team,

I'm trying to navigate to a specific slide in a Present Pro dashboard using Execute JavaScript action (not Jump To Slide). I wanted to share everything I've tried so far in case anyone has a solution.

What I want:

When a user clicks a button, if their role is Admin → go to slide 2

If not Admin → show an access restricted popup

What works:

Contains(UserRoles(), "Admin")
→ role check works perfectly

The popup for non-admins works fine

"alert('test')"
→ works

"document.dispatchEvent(new KeyboardEvent('keydown', {key:'ArrowRight', keyCode:39, bubbles:true}));"
→ goes to next slide (one slide forward only)

What doesn't work:

pyramidApp.present.goToSlide(2)
→ nothing happens (this was working till Sunday Night)

pyramidApp.present.nextSlide()
→ nothing happens

pyramidApp.present.goToPage(2)
→ nothing happens

pyramidApp.navigateToSlide(2)
→ nothing happens

pyramidApp.present.navigate(2)
→ nothing happens

window.postMessage({type:'nextSlide'}, '*')
→ nothing happens

document.querySelectorAll('.tab-header-item')[1].click()
→ nothing happens

document.querySelectorAll('.tab-header-hotbox')[1].click()
→ nothing happens

Dispatching ArrowRight twice with setTimeout → only goes one slide forward

DOM findings:

No
<button>
elements found in Pyramid's DOM

Found
.horizontal-arrows-scroller
with child classes:
tab-header-hotbox
,
tab-header-item
,
tab-text
,
selected

Clicking these elements programmatically does nothing

Question:
Is there any JavaScript API or DOM method available inside Pyramid's Execute JavaScript action to navigate to a specific slide by number?

The
goToSlide()
method in the docs only works for the Embed API (
EmbeddedResult
), not inside internal JS actions.

Any help or workaround would be greatly appreciated!

Dynamic “initial price” driven by a user-selected date filter

How do I calculate a dynamic “initial price” driven by a user-selected date filter?

Background

I have a receiving ledger with a few million rows of receiving entries. Each row contains the usual fields:

· Purchase order number

· Part number

· Received date

· Unit price

· Received quantity (QTY)

Goal

I want to track price changes for each part and the resulting dollar impact over a user-selected time period. In the discovery, the user picks a start period and an end period based on the Received date.

How the calculation should work

The base (initial) price is the first price paid for a given part on or after the selected start period. Any later price change is shown as a delta from that initial price:

Price difference = Current price − Initial price

The dollar impact is then weighted by the received quantity:

$ Impact = Received QTY × Price difference

What I’ve tried

I can build every calculation without trouble except for selecting the initial price based on the user’s filter selection. Using a Lag or a previous member approach does not reproduce the result I’m after, because the initial price needs to be anchored to the first record within the selected window rather than the immediately preceding row. Moreover, it should consider any other filter in the discover, such as the Part number selected.

My question

How can I create a variable initial price that is driven by the date range the user selects on a filter — i.e., the first unit price per part within the chosen start/end period — so the delta and impact recalculate as the filter changes?

I have a need to retrieve a list of formulas from our instance that includes the name, description and the actual logic for documentation purposes. I have figured out how to get the first two items from the repository tables but the logic is embedded in a JSON column that looks a bit too tricky to extract. What we are looking for is the information typically shown in the Syntax Preview tab in Formulate. I stumbled across this API in the documentation and I am wondering if it returns what I am looking for:

getFormula

It claims to return the PQL or MDX representation of the formulate object. There is no sample of what the output looks like so I am wanting some confirmation that this is what I want before figuring out how to implement the code.

For example, let's say I have a custom formula/measure that is defined as a ratio and was built in Formulate using the Growth template in the Marketplace (A-B)/A. Would this API call return the actual column names seen in the Syntax Preview?

Hi Pyramid Team,

I am looking for recommendations on how to proactively identify Pyramid content that may overload runtime servers.

I had a case where opening a specific content item caused very high memory usage on runtime servers. The runtime machine became almost unresponsive because of memory exhaustion, and requests routed to that runtime started hanging.

My question is about prevention. I want to understand how an administrator can find this kind of risky or inefficient self-service content before it affects the environment.

Questions:

Are there built-in admin tools, logs, audit data, repository queries, or monitoring views that show which content items consume the most memory on runtime servers?

Is there a way to identify reports, dashboards, or models that create very large intermediate result sets or expensive runtime queries?

After a runtime overload event, is there a recommended way to identify which content item caused the memory spike?

Are there recommended limits, alerts, or isolation settings that can prevent a single heavy content item from overloading runtime servers?

What is the recommended process for reviewing and optimizing this type of content in self-service environments?

The goal is to detect and review this type of content in advance, before it overloads runtime servers.

Pyramid version: 2024.03.002

Expand any Category (in my example – Furniture)

Actual behavior:

Sub-categories are not under the expanded Category, but are sorted like independent rows (The hierarchy is broken).

Need Help Creating Dynamic Previous Month Sales, Current Month Sales & Growth % in Pivot

Hi Team,

I need help creating Previous Month Sales, Current Month Sales, and Growth % in a Pivot.

I have:

A Sales column

A Sales Date column in
yyyy-MM-dd
format

Initially, I created a custom Month column, and the calculation was working correctly. However, when I tried using the actual Sales Date column directly, it stopped working.

I have already tried using
Lag()
and the Previous option, but it is still not giving the expected result.

My requirement in the Pivot is:

1st Column = Previous Month Sales
2nd Column = Current Month Sales
3rd Column = Growth %

Also, I need the values to be dynamic according to the Sales Date filter selection.

The Sales Date will be used in the filter.

Could someone please suggest the correct way to achieve?

Thank you!

I created a new column to total them so I only have to filter on one variable. I am able to do this and it works great, however, I also need to total some of my measures to look at specific counts and values when the rows with the two measures do not equal 0. I understand you may not total on filters, sorting, N-of-N, or elimination logic, however, there must be some sort of plausible workaround. I don't agree with the statement that there is no use in totaling over something that you filtered on. Thank you.

DateDiff documentation says "dy" for days, but Custom Column only accepts "dd"

Hello PA Team,

I found an inconsistency between the PQL documentation and the actual behavior of DateDiff in a Custom Column.

https://help.pyramidanalytics.com/2024/Content/Root/developer/reference/fx/PQL/Common/Date-Time/DateDiff.htm?Highlight=datediff

According to the documentation for DateDiff, the supported flag for days is:
- "dy"
- "dayofyear"

However, when using this in a Custom Column, the following expression fails:

DateDiff(last_login_date, now(), "dy")

Error:
Unsupported date offset type: dy

At the same time, the following expression succeeds:

DateDiff(last_login_date, now(), "dd")

The issue is that "dd" is not mentioned in the documentation, while the documented "dy" does not work in this context.

Expected behavior:
- either "dy" should work as documented,
- or the documentation should be updated to reflect the actually supported flag values for this function in Custom Columns.

This looks like either a documentation issue or an inconsistency in the function implementation for Custom Columns.

Screenshots attached.

Cascading slicers as multiple tree selection

Hello everyone,

We have a dashboard with a slicer for cost centres. The sales organisation should cascade on this so that only the cost centres of the selected sales organisation are shown.

We have currently incorporated the cost centres as a drop-down slicer. However, this is not ideal, as there are several levels in the selection that are not easily visible to the user without the hierarchy being displayed.

If I change the type of slicer to a multiple tree selection, the box (marked in red) where I can tick the cascade option disappears. Why is that?

As always: thank you for your help!
Jona

Only primary Y-axis shall be colored...

Dear Community,

I like to have a simple combined chart:

"SALES by PRODUCT CATEGORY" as stacked column on the primary Y-axis

"MARGIN" as line chart on the secondary Y-axis

So, it should look like this...

...but the PRODUCT CATEGORY (Color drop zone) should only have an effect on SALES, not on MARGIN. So, I want to have ONE line chart for the overall margin.

(How) Is this possible?

THNAK YOU!!!
Micha

Filter Context Manipulation: Removing Filters from a Measure

Hi PA team,

We would like to implement the following calculation:
We have a list of products, and we want to create a distinct count of these products.

However, for this measure, we would like the results to not be affected by the product color filter when used in a dashboard KPI or in a Discovery canvas.

In our data model, Product ID and Color are in the same table, and in Power BI there is an option to use REMOVEFILTERS inside CALCULATE to ignore specific filters for a measure.

Our question is:
👉 How can we implement similar functionality in Pyramid Analytics?
We have checked the community resources but could not find an equivalent option.

Thanks in advance for your support.
